Creative Currents, 2025 was created on hiking the forests and cliffs of St. Mary, Jamaica in May 2025. The work is an experiment with a conceptual technique using film to access energy living on the land. Known as a hot bed of cultural and political activity for over three centuries, St. Mary is one of many bastions within Jamaica that shines a light on the determination of its people, and the beauty of the land. The image is a photograph reads like a painting allowing the land’s colors and atmosphere to speak in a voice of its own.
This work is from "The Land Sings of A Dream," Niama Safia Sandy’s new series of experimental film photographs. The images offer abstracted, dream-like scenes connected to energetic resonance at indigenous and Global Black Diaspora historical sites related to liberation and cultural activity.
