Sub Bass Dub | 8" Print
Sub Bass Dub (Jamaica), 2025
120 mm giclèe print on Baryta paper
8 inches by 8 inches
Limited Edition of 10, Signed Front
Sub Bass Dub was made in Jamaica in May 2025. All over the world, Jamaica is known for its music: mento, ska, and the most well-known of all reggae. The land itself is tuned to that frequency and rhythm. Many legendary musicians and producers were born and raised in St. Mary Parish, where this image was created. The color gradation in this image reminds me of the sensation in the body at the exact second the hard-driving bass drops into the beat drops in a Reggae record. It reflects the sublime energy of the land.
This work is from "The Land Sings of A Dream," Niama Safia Sandy’s new series of experimental film photographs. The images offer abstracted, dream-like scenes connected to energetic resonance at indigenous and Global Black Diaspora historical sites related to liberation and cultural activity.
